What This Program Is

The GLAD AI Bootcamp is a four-week, full-day learning experience for Kenyan young adults ages 18-24. It is designed for learners from any career background -- not just tech. Whether you are pursuing work in business, education, healthcare, communications, agriculture, or any other field, this program will equip you with practical AI skills that are increasingly expected in modern workplaces.

Students meet Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, at GLAD's residential campus near Lake Elementaita. Mornings are dedicated to instruction and guided practice. Afternoons give students time to apply what they are learning to a personal portfolio project tied to their own career goals.

What You Will Learn

  • The first week builds the foundation. Students learn how AI tools work, what their limitations are, and most importantly, how to communicate with them effectively. This means going beyond basic questions to writing structured, intentional prompts that produce reliable, high-quality results. Students also begin shaping the idea for their portfolio project.

  • Week two is about practical application across the most common professional tasks. Students learn to use AI for writing and communication, research and information gathering, working with data, and self-directed learning. The focus is on building habits and workflows that make AI a useful daily tool rather than a novelty.

  • This week covers how AI supports the visual and organizational side of professional work - creating graphics, designing presentations, producing content for audiences, and managing projects more effectively. Students explore tools built for non-designers and learn how to produce polished, professional outputs without specialized training.

  • The final week pushes into more advanced territory. Students get hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding (sometimes called vibe coding), workflow automation, and AI agents - tools that can take action on your behalf. This week is more challenging, and intentionally so. These are the directions the workforce is heading, and students who have seen them firsthand will be better prepared for what is coming.

Ethics Included Throughout

Each week includes a dedicated discussion on the ethical dimensions of AI - topics like bias, misinformation, privacy, and what responsible AI use looks like in African professional contexts. These conversations are not an add-on. They are part of what makes a truly AI-literate professional.

The Portfolio Project

From day one, students work on an independent project connected to their own career path. As each new skill is introduced, students find ways to apply it to their project. By the end of the program, every student has a finished, showable product - something a hiring manager or client can actually see - along with the ability to speak confidently about how they built it and why.

Who This Is For

This bootcamp is for motivated Kenyan young adults (ages 18-24) who want to get ahead in their field. General familiarity with computers - through classes or packages - is required to participate. What matters most is curiosity, commitment, and a desire to grow. Laptops and internet access are provided for all students during program hours.
