Typing and English Language Assessment

This portion of the assessment will measure how well you follow directions, test your typing speed, and evaluate your proficiency with the English language. Pay careful attention to each step’s instructions.

Again, this is part of the timed assessment. Complete as quickly and accurately as you can.

Create a Google Doc

  1. Open Google Docs: https://docs.google.com

  2. Create a new Google Doc and name it “[Your full name] GLAD Assessment” (for example, I would name it: “Ben Eastvold GLAD Assessment”

  3. Create a title heading at the top of the document, the same text as the name of your file. (again, for me, it would be: Ben Eastvold GLAD Assessment)

  4. Set this title to be center aligned

  5. Make it a Title font (not a Heading)

  6. Set the font to Merriweather and the font color to a shade of blue.

You will be using this document throughout the rest of this assessment, so be sure to keep it open in your web browser!

About Me

  1. Under the title, create a new Heading 1 called “About Me”

  2. Underneath, tell me your name and the country you are originally from.

  3. Search for a picture on the internet of your hometown and insert it into the document.

    1. Note: You may be unfamiliar with how to do this, this is a great time to use your Google Search skills. Type into Google Search: “insert image into Google Doc” and see what comes up. You may find an article that describes how to do this, or a YouTube video that shows you how.

  4. Then, in one sentence, describe the picture and its significance to your hometown.

  5. Create a Heading 2 called “My Hobbies”

  6. Create an unordered (bulleted) list and add three of your favorite hobbies that you do in your spare time. Highlight in yellow your favorite hobby.

  7. Choose one of your hobbies, and under your list add a link to a website where I can read more about it. The text of the link can say something like: “Click here to read more about [X].”

Typing Test

Learning how to type properly on a computer keyboard is essential for anyone working in the field of technology. We want to assess your skill in this area. You’ll take an online typing test, then take a screenshot of your results, and paste it into the Google Doc.

Test

  1. Go to: https://www.keybr.com/typing-test

  2. Choose a “one minute” test from the Test Duration menu at the top.

  3. Start typing!

  4. Your results will show at the end of the minute. If necessary, retake the test to improve your score.

  5. When you are satisfied with your results, click the screenshot button. An image is loaded with your results. Copy the image from the context (right-click) menu.

Results

Back in the Google Doc, create another Heading 1 called “Typing Test”

Underneath the heading, paste your copied screenshot.
